Restaurant Review: Central Delhi by Minar

There’s something comforting and charming about brands that have stood the test of time — and Minar is one of them. Known for its roots in Connaught Place, where old-school Delhi food has long had a loyal following, Minar that started over 50 years ago, has now brought its familiar flavours to Gurugram with Central Delhi by Minar, located in the swanky new IFC. Their food has a dedicated following and a lot of nostalgia around it. The owners, Arora family, also has another popular brand Bhape da Hotel.

Atmospherics

Spread across two floors and seating around 80 guests, the space feels open and welcoming. Tall ceilings and large windows let in light, while interiors balance polish with warmth. It is more family-style diner than plush fine-dining, which works well. It’s stylish but not trying too hard, and the layout allows for both groups and quieter meals.

Food

The menu stays true to the old favourites. Their fabled dishes chicken curry, Saag wala gosht, bheja fry curry, butter chicken and dal makhani, remain the biggest see till date. Such has been their following and popularity that most diners here don’t even look at the menu and order these right away.

What’s new is a small selection of salads, appetisers, chaats and more vegetarian options on the menu, likely aimed at a younger audience and after-work crowd in Gurugram. While not the core of the experience, they serve as decent starters or shared plates over drinks.

Plus and minus

The legacy of Minar — along with its sibling Bhape Da Dhaba — lies in consistent, no-fuss Delhi food. This new outpost doesn’t try to reinvent the wheel. Instead, it lets the familiar speak for itself, while gently introducing a few new ones. For long-time patrons and new diners alike, Central Delhi by Minar offers a taste of an older Delhi in a newer address.
